Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If replacing the cylinder head, transfer all parts as necessary. Cylinder Head Assemble

    NOTE:

    Do not use any sealing material.

    NOTE:

    Install a NEW gasket.

    Cylinder Head Gasket (3) - Install

  3. Ensure the number 1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC). The key on the crankshaft should be on top in the 12 o'clock position.
  4. Cylinder Head (2) - Install
  5. Install NEW bolts.

    Cylinder Head Bolt (1) - Loosely install [10x]

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Tighten in the sequence shown.

    Tighten

    1. First Pass:  tighten the bolts in sequence to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
    2. Final Pass:  tighten the bolts an additional 190 degrees in sequence using the EN 45059  meter.

    Support engine as necessary from underneath to allow repositioning the engine support lift fixture hook to the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2). Engine Support Fixture 

  8. Reposition the engine support fixture lift hook from the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) to the engine lift bracket (3).
  9. Remove the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) and fastener (1) from the engine block.

    Ground Cable (2) - Install

    11. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  11. Engine Wiring Harness Clip Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 9N.m (80 lb in)
  12. Connect all of the hoses to the water outlet. Water Outlet Replacement (LTG)

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Intake Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Connect

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Connect

  15. Camshaft Position Actuator and Camshaft Replacement - Intake  - Install
  16. Camshaft Position Actuator and Camshaft Replacement - Exhaust  - Install

    Engine Front Cover (8) - Install - Engine Front Cover Replacement 

  18. Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LTG) - Install
  19. Intake Manifold Replacement  - Install
  20. Fuel Pump Replacement - Install

    Camshaft Cover (2) - Install - Camshaft Cover Replacement 

  22. Change the engine oil and filter. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  23. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE-47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static) - Fill
