Removal Procedure

- Worn or burnt valves
- Broken valve springs
- Stuck valve lash adjusters
- Damaged piston
- Worn piston rings
- Worn or scored cylinder bore
- Damaged cylinder head gasket
- Cracked or damaged cylinder head
- Cracked or damaged engine block
NOTE:
A leakage test may be performed in order to measure cylinder/combustion chamber leakage. High leakage may indicate one or more of the following:
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement .
Set up the crankshaft.
- Move the crankshaft in the direction of the engine rotation to the first cylinder TDC position (mark 2).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
- Detach the engine wiring harness from intake manifold, cylinder head cover and engine wiring harness bracket.
- Remove the coolant expansion tank closure cap.
- Remove the oil dipstick.
Apply guidance marks.
- Attach 1 markings (1) as an aid to one of the camshaft adjusters offset by 180° to the marking applied (2).
