Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Test 1

    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:
    • S32LR Seat Heating Switch - Left Rear
    • S32RR Seat Heating Switch - Right Rear
  3. Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 1 & Ground
    • If 10 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the ground connection:
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 1@Component harness & The other end of the circuit@Ground terminal
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms 
  4. Engine - Idling
  5. Verify the scan tool parameter:Left Rear Seat Heating/Venting/Cooling Mode/Right Rear Seat Heating/Venting/Cooling Mode = Off
    • If not the specified state 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X7@K9 Body Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the specified state 
  6. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3@Component harness & Ground

    Verify the scan tool parameter:Seat Back and Cushion Heating

    • If not the specified state 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Jumper wire(s)
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X7@K9 Body Control Module
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
    5. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3@Component harness & The other end of the circuit@Control module harnessX7
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the specified state 
  7. Test or replace the component:S32 Seat Heating Switch - Rear

Test 2

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
  3. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:
    • B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
    • B+ circuit terminal 10 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • B+ circuit terminal 7 & Output terminal@Fuse
      • B+ circuit terminal 10 & Output terminal@Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
      • B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
      • B+ circuit terminal 10 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  4. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  5. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
    • Control circuit terminal 2 & Ground
    • Control circuit terminal 6 & Ground
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Repair the short to ground on the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance 
  6. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  7. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
    • Terminal 2 & Ground
    • Terminal 6 & Ground
    • If greater than 1 V 

      Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If less than 1 V 
  8. Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear

Test 3

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion
  3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  4. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:Terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 6 X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  5. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4@E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion
  6. Engine - Idling
  7. Operate the component: S32LR Seat Heating Switch - Left Rear - Pressed
  8. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion}Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 6@Control module harnessX1
      • {E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion}Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 4@Control module harnessX1
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  9. Replace the component:E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion

Test 4

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
  3. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 7 & Output terminal@Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector:E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion
  5. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  6. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:Terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 5 X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  7. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4@E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion
  8. Engine - Idling
  9. Operate the component: S32RR Seat Heating Switch - Right Rear - Pressed
  10. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion}Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 2@Control module harnessX1
      • {E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion}Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 3@Control module harnessX1
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  11. Replace the component:E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

Test 5

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:

    E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion

  3. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4
  4. Engine - Idling
  5. Operate the component: Passenger Seat Heating Switch - Pressed
  6. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1 & X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 6 X1@Control module harness
      • Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 4 X2@Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  7. Replace the component:E14F Seat Heating Element - Left Rear Cushion

Test 6

    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

    E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

  3. Test for less than 40 ohms between the test points:

    Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground@E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

    • If 40 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Low Reference terminal 3@Component harness & Terminal 2 X2@Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If less than 40 ohms 
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:

    Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground@E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:

      {E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 5 X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear

      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  6. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  7. Connect the electrical connectors.E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
  9. Test for 500 ohms to 300 kohms between the test points:

    {Right Rear Seat Cushion Temperature Sensor}Signal circuit terminal 5 X2 & Low Reference circuit terminal 2 X2@Control module harness

    • If not between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 

      Replace the component:

      E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

    • Go to next step: If between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 
  10. Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear

Test 7

    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:

    E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

  3. Test for less than 40 ohms between the test points:

    Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground@E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

    • If 40 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:

      {E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion}Low Reference terminal 3@Component harness & Terminal 2 X2@Control module harness

      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If less than 40 ohms 
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:

    Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground@E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:

      {E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 5 X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front

      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  6. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  7. Connect the electrical connectors.

    E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
  9. Test for 500 ohms to 300 kohms between the test points:

    {Right Rear Seat Cushion Temperature Sensor}Signal circuit terminal 5 X2 & Low Reference circuit terminal 2 X2@Control module harness

    • If not between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 

      Replace the component:E14H Seat Heating Element - Right Rear Cushion

    • Go to next step: If between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 
  10. Replace the component:K29R Seat Heating Control Module - Rear
