Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Test 1

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
  3. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:
    • B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
    • B+ circuit terminal 10 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • B+ circuit terminal 7 & Output terminal@Fuse
      • B+ circuit terminal 10 & Output terminal@Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
      • B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
      • B+ circuit terminal 10 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  4. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  5. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
    • Control circuit terminal 2 & Ground
    • Control circuit terminal 6 & Ground
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Repair the short to ground on the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance 
  6. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  7. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
    • Terminal 2 & Ground
    • Terminal 6 & Ground
    • If greater than 1 V 

      Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If less than 1 V 
  8. Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front

Test 2

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:
    • E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
  3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  4. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:
    • Terminal 2 & Ground@E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • Terminal 2 & Ground@E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 6@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • {E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 3@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  5. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4@E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
  6. Engine - Idling
  7. Operate the component: Driver Seat Heating Switch - Pressed
  8. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back}Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 6@Control module harnessX1
      • {E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back}Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 4@Control module harnessX1
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  9. Connect the electrical connector:@E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
  10. Operate the component: Driver Seat Heating Switch - Pressed
  11. Verify the test lamp turns On.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 

      Replace the component:E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion

    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  12. Replace the component:E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back

Test 3

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:
    • E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
  3. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4
  4. Engine - Idling
  5. Operate the component: Driver Seat Heating Switch - Pressed
  6. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 6@Control module harnessX1
      • Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 4@Control module harnessX1
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  7. Replace the component:E14 Seat Heating Element

Test 4

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
  3. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 7 & Output terminal@Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open 
    1. Remove - Test Lamp
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 7 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  4. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  5. Connect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector:
    • E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
  7. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  8. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:
    • Terminal 2 & Ground@E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • Terminal 2 & Ground@E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 5@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • {E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 4@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  9. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4@E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
  10. Engine - Idling
  11. Operate the component: Passenger Seat Heating - Pressed
  12. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back}Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 2@Control module harnessX1
      • {E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back}Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 3@Control module harnessX1
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  13. Connect the electrical connector:@E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
  14. Operate the component: Passenger Seat Heating Switch - Pressed
  15. Verify the test lamp turns On.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 

      Replace the component:E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion

    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  16. Replace the component:E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back

Test 5

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:
    • E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
  3. Connect a test lamp between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Control circuit terminal 4
  4. Engine - Idling
  5. Operate the component: Passenger Seat Heating Switch - Pressed
  6. Verify the test lamp turns On. - The test lamp may turn off after 10 s.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X1@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Terminal 2@Control module harnessX1
      • Control circuit terminal 4@Component harness & Terminal 3@Control module harnessX1
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  7. Replace the component:E14 Seat Heating Element

Test 6

    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    • E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
  3. Test for less than 40 ohms between the test points:
    • Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground@E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground@E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
    • If 40 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Low Reference terminal 3@Component harness & Terminal 1@Control module harnessX2
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If less than 40 ohms 
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:
    • Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground@E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground@E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 6@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • {E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 3@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  6. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  7. Connect the electrical connectors.
    • E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
  9. Test for 500 ohms to 300 kohms between the test points:
    • {Driver Seat Cushion Temperature Sensor}Signal circuit terminal 6 & Low Reference circuit terminal 1@Control module harnessX2
    • {Driver Seat Back Temperature Sensor}Signal circuit terminal 3 & Low Reference circuit terminal 1@Control module harnessX2
    • If not between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 

      Replace the appropriate component:

    • E14B Seat Heating Element - Driver Cushion
    • E14A Seat Heating Element - Driver Back
    • Go to next step: If between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 
  10. Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front

Test 7

    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    • E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
  3. Test for less than 40 ohms between the test points:
    • Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground@E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground@E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
    • If 40 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion}Low Reference terminal 3@Component harness & Terminal 2@Control module harnessX2
      • {E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back}Low Reference terminal 3@Component harness & Terminal 12@Control module harnessX2
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If less than 40 ohms 
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points:
    • Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground@E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground@E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 5@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • {E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back}Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Terminal 4@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - FrontX2
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  6. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  7. Connect the electrical connectors.
    • E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector:X2@K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
  9. Test for 500 ohms to 300 kohms between the test points:
    • {Passenger Seat Cushion Temperature Sensor}Signal circuit terminal 5 & Low Reference circuit terminal 2@Control module harnessX2
    • {Passenger Seat Back Temperature Sensor}Signal circuit terminal 4 & Low Reference circuit terminal 12@Control module harnessX2
    • If not between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 

      Replace the appropriate component:

    • E14D Seat Heating Element - Passenger Cushion
    • E14C Seat Heating Element - Passenger Back
    • Go to next step: If between 500 ohms and 300 kohms 
  10. Replace the component:K29F Seat Heating Control Module - Front
