Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    Clean the splines of any old grease and apply a thin coat of NEW high temperature grease prior to installing the NEW O-Ring and NEW Retaining Ring. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 

    Install a NEW retaining (1), and a NEW O-ring (2), onto the front wheel drive intermediate shaft.

    Install the NEW washer (1) on the wheel drive shaft (2).

    3. NOTE:

    The threads must be clean and free of debris prior to the application of the threadlocker to ensure proper adhesion and retention.

  3. Thoroughly clean the threads using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.

    NOTE:

    Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the threads on the shaft. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation of the nut.

    Apply threadlocker to the wheel drive shaft threads (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 

  5. Apply a very small amount of grease to the splines of the wheel drive shaft inner joint. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Position the wheel drive shaft (1) into the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the wheel drive shaft is fully seated.

    Install the wheel drive shaft (1) onto the front wheel drive intermediate shaft (2).

  8. Install the front wheel drive shaft into the front wheel bearing/hub.
  9. Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Lower Control Arm Replacement
  10. Install the outer tie rod assembly at the steering knuckle. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install a NEW nut.

    Tighten

    1. First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft)
    2. Second Pass: Loosen 45 degrees 
    3. Final Pass: 250 N.m (185 lb ft)
  12. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
