Installation Procedure

    Install the NEW retainer clip.

    Install the NEW washer (1) on the wheel drive shaft (2).

    3. NOTE:

    The threads must be clean and free of debris prior to the application of the threadlocker to ensure proper adhesion and retention.

  3. Thoroughly clean the threads using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.

    NOTE:

    Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the threads on the shaft. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation of the nut.

    Apply threadlocker to the wheel drive shaft threads (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Position the wheel drive shaft (1) into the vehicle.

    CAUTION:

    DT-51504 must be installed into the differential output shaft seal prior to removing and installing the wheel drive shaft. Failure to install the DT-51504 as indicated may cause the splines of the wheel drive shaft to damage the differential output seal

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the wheel drive shaft is fully seated in the transmission.

    Carefully install the wheel drive shaft into the differential until the splines are past the DT-51504  Seal Protector (1).

  7. Remove the DT-51504  Seal Protector from the differential output shaft seal.
  8. Install the front wheel drive shaft into the front wheel bearing/hub.
  9. Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Lower Control Arm Replacement
  10. Install the outer tie rod assembly at the steering knuckle. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install a NEW nut.

    Tighten

    1. First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft)
    2. Second Pass: Loosen (45 degrees) 
    3. Final Pass: 250 N.m (185 lb ft)
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  13. Inspect the transaxle fluid level. MKE Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
