Installation Procedure
- NOTE:
- Whenever ANY fuel injector is removed from the cylinder head or the fuel injection fuel rail, the fuel injector MUST be rebuilt.
- Some vehicles are NOT originally equipped with fuel injector dust seals. If NOT present when removing the fuel injectors, ensure NEW seals are installed regardless of whether present or not.
Disassemble and inspect the following components for ALL exposed fuel injectors (1) :
- Fuel Injector Hold Down Clamp (2) - ONLY replace if necessary
- Fuel Injector Collar (3) - ONLY replace if necessary
- Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Seal (4) - ALWAYS replace
- Fuel Injector Seal Spacer (5) - ALWAYS replace
- Fuel Injector Dust Seal (6) - ALWAYS replace
- Fuel Injector Nozzle Housing Seals (7) - ALWAYS replace
- Rebuild ALL removed fuel injectors (1). Fuel Rail and Injectors Cleaning and Inspection
- Install the fuel injection fuel rail fuel pressure sensor. Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Fuel Pressure Sensor Replacement
- NOTE:
All fuel injector components MUST be clean and free of debris prior to installation.
Install the rebuilt fuel injectors (1). Fuel Injector Replacement
Connect the fuel injector wiring harness (1) to the bracket, the fuel injection fuel rail fuel pressure sensor, and the fuel injectors.
- Secure the fuel injector wiring harness with GM approved tape (2).
- NOTE:
Ensure the fuel injection fuel rail bolts are retained securely in the fuel injection fuel rail insulators BEFORE applying the thread locking adhesive.
Perform the following steps to install the fuel injection fuel rail bolts (1) :
- Thoroughly clean the residue from the bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
- Install the bolts into the fuel injection fuel rail insulators.
- Apply a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) band of thread locking adhesive to the threads of each bolt. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Position the fuel injection fuel rail (1) and start the fuel injection fuel rail bolts (2) by hand.
- Tighten the fuel injection fuel rail bolts (2) in even increments to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the fuel feed pipe - at engine. Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Short/Long Wheel Base) , or Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Chassis Cab Front Tank) , or Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Chassis Cab Rear Tank) , or Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (At Engine)
Connect the electrical connector (1).
- NOTE:
Do NOT reuse the fuel feed intermediate pipe. If the fuel feed intermediate pipe fittings are loosened or the pipe is removed, the pipe MUST be replaced.
Install the NEW fuel feed intermediate pipe - position 1. Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Replacement - Position 1
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)
- Pressurize the fuel system and inspect for leaks.
Install the fuel pump insulator (1). Fuel Pump Insulator Replacement
Refer to Fastener Caution .
