Removal Procedure
- Remove the starter motor. Starter Replacement (LWN) , or Starter Replacement (L96, LC8) , or Starter Replacement (LV1)
- Temporarily install the left engine mount bracket and engine mount. Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side
- Remove the rear propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (With M5U)
- Remove the catalytic converter. Catalytic Converter Replacement (LWN) , or Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96, LC8)
Remove the torque converter access plug (1).
Remove the crankshaft position sensor cover (1). Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement
Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts (1).
Remove the range selector cable retaining clip (1) from the transmission range selector cable.
- Remove the range selector cable (2) from the range selector lever ball stud (3).
- Position the range selector lever cable (4) out of the way.
- Disconnect the transmission electrical connector from the transmission.
- Remove the wire harness from the transmission.
Disconnect the clip (1) that secures the fuel line bracket to the left side of the transmission.
- Disconnect the clip that secures the fuel line bracket to the rear of the transmission.
- Position the fuel lines out of the way.
Disconnect the transmission oil cooler hose/pipe (2) from the transmission. Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (M5U)
- Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
- Remove the transmission mount. Transmission Mount Replacement
- Secure the transmission to the transmission jack using a suitable strap or chain.
- Lower the transmission to gain access to the top and sides of the transmission.
Remove the nuts (1, 4) then reposition the brackets (2, 3) out of the way.
Remove the bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) securing the transmission to the engine.
Disconnect the transmission vent hose (2) from the transmission.
Remove the right side transmission bolt (1).
Remove the lower transmission bolts (1, 2, 3, 4).
- Pull the transmission straight back.
- Install the J-21366 converter holding strap onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
- Flush and flow test the transmission oil cooler and lines. Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test and Flushing
