Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine cover. Engine Cover Replacement
  2. Remove the coolant air bleed pipe. Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (L96, LC8)
  3. Remove the left exhaust manifold. Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (L96, LC8)
  4. Remove the pushrods. Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement

    Remove the battery negative cable ground bolt (1) and the battery negative cable ground (2) from the cylinder head.

    NOTE:

    The cylinder head bolts are NOT reusable.

    Remove the cylinder head bolts.

  7. CAUTION:

    After removal, place the cylinder head on 2 wood blocks in order to prevent damage to the sealing surfaces.

  8. Remove the cylinder head.

    Remove the cylinder head gasket.

  10. Discard the gasket.
  11. Discard the cylinder head bolts.
  12. Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection
