Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)
  2. Remove the engine cover. Engine Cover Replacement

    Remove the bolts (1, 2 3, 4, 5, 6) securing the transmission to the engine.

  4. Remove the propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (With MYD)
  5. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  6. Remove the transmission mount. Transmission Mount Replacement 
  7. Remove the catalytic converter pipe. Catalytic Converter Replacement (LWN) , or Catalytic Converter Replacement (L96, LC8)

    Remove the torque converter access plug (1).

    Remove the left flywheel inspection cover (2). Transmission Converter Cover Replacement (Left Side) .

    Remove the right flywheel inspection cover (2). Transmission Converter Cover Replacement (Right Side) .

    Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts (1).

  12. Lower the transmission to gain access to the top and sides of the transmission.

    Remove the range selector cable retaining clip (1) from the transmission range selector cable.

    Remove the range selector cable (2) and the range selector lever from the transmission. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Replacement 

  15. Disconnect the transmission vent hose.
  16. Remove the transmission heat shield. Transmission Heat Shield Replacement 
  17. Disconnect the transmission electrical connectors and wiring harness retainers from the transmission.
  18. Remove the wire harness from the transmission.

    Remove the bolt (2) and nut (1) that secures the fuel line bracket to the left side of the transmission.

  20. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from the transmission. Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (MYD)
  21. Plug the transmission oil cooler line connectors in the transmission case.

    Remove the bolts (1, 2) securing the transmission to the engine.

  23. Pull the transmission straight back.
  24. Install the J-21366  converter holding strap onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
  25. Remove the transmission from the vehicle while simultaneously removing the fluid level indicator tube.
  26. Flush and flow test the transmission oil cooler and lines. Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test and Flushing
