Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition = Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: X175 @ T12 Automatic Transmission Assembly
- Test for less than 5 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 30 & Ground
- If 5 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 30 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If less than 5 ohms
- Ignition = On
- Test for 8. 3 to 9. 3 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
- If 9. 3 V or greater
- Ignition = Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Ignition = On
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- If less than 8. 3 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
- Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If between 8. 3 and 9. 3 V
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Internal Mode Switch = High
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
- Verify the scan tool parameter: 9V Reference Circuit 1 = Low
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Remove - Jumper Wire
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
- Verify the scan tool parameter: 9V Reference Circuit 2 = Low
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Remove - Jumper Wire
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Test for 11 to 13 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35 @ X175Ground
- If not between 11 and 13 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35 @ X175 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35 @ X175 & Ground
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If between 11 and 13 V
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35 & Ground circuit terminal 30 @ X175
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Park/Neutral Position Switch = Park/Neutral
- If not the specified state
Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state

NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
