Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Without Dual Rear Wheels) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With Dual Rear Wheels) .
- Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement .
- Remove the differential. Refer to Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) , or Differential Replacement (9.5 Inch Axle) .
Remove the wheel speed sensor ring, retainer, and bearing adjuster assemblys (1 and 2) on both the left and right sides or as required. The ring retainers are attached to the differential side bearing adjusters via a clip type system.
Caution must be exercised when inserting/replacing the differential or axle shaft to avoid damage to the rear wheel speed sensor ring and/or retainer. If the sensor ring or retainer is damaged at any point in this process, the damaged components must be replaced.
The inboard axle shaft mounted wheel speed sensors, sensor retainers and bolts, sensor rings and ring retainers are unique to the updated 11.5 HD dual rear wheel axle. These components are mounted inboard near the differential, rather than near the wheel ends of the axle tubes as on other axle models. The Wheel Speed Sensor Ring is attached to the differential adjuster with a clip type retainer.
