Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Remove the rear tires and wheels. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Without Dual Rear Wheels) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With Dual Rear Wheels)
Remove the vent hose from the rear drive axle.
- Remove the rear brake calipers, and relocate to the side. Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH6) , or Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH9)
- Drain the rear axle. Differential Oil Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) , or Differential Oil Replacement (9.5 Inch Axle)
- Remove the propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (With M5U) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (With MYD)
Remove the rear brake pipe retaining bracket bolts (1 and 2).
- Secure the rear brake pipes to the frame with mechanics wire or equivalent.
- Disconnect the rear park brake cables from the axle. Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side , Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side
- Support the rear drive axle with a hydraulic jack stand.
- Remove the rear spring U-Bolts, the rear spring anchor plates, and the rear spring spacers from the vehicle. Rear Leaf Spring Replacement (Chassis Cab) , or Rear Leaf Spring Replacement (Except Chassis Cab)
- With the aid of an assistant, lower the drive axle.
Lower the rear drive axle assembly (1).
NOTE:
Ensure that the rear drive axle is properly secured to the jack stand.
