Installation Procedure

Position the rear drive axle assembly under the vehicle.
- With the aid of an assistant, raise the rear drive axle into place.
- Install the rear spring U-Bolts, the rear spring anchor plates, and the rear spring spacers from the vehicle. Rear Leaf Spring Replacement (Chassis Cab) , or Rear Leaf Spring Replacement (Except Chassis Cab)
- Install the lower shock absorber bolts to the rear drive axle. Shock Absorber Replacement
- Remove the hydraulic jack stand from the rear drive axle assembly.
- Connect the rear park brake cables to the axle. Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side , Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the rear brake pipe retaining bracket bolts (1) and tighten to:
- First pass at 20 N.m (15 lb ft)
- Final pass an additional 20 degrees
Install rear drive axle the vent hose.
- Install the rear brake calipers. Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH6) , or Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH9)
- Install the rear propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (With M5U) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (With MYD)
- Fill the rear drive axle with fluid. Differential Oil Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) , or Differential Oil Replacement (9.5 Inch Axle)
- Install the rear tires and wheels. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Without Dual Rear Wheels) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With Dual Rear Wheels)
- Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
