Installation Procedure

  1. GM1964811

    With the aide of an assistant, lift the rear drive axle into place.

  2. Align the U-bolts, nuts, anchor plates and spacers from the rear leaf springs to the rear drive axle. Rear Leaf Spring Replacement (Chassis Cab) , or Rear Leaf Spring Replacement (Except Chassis Cab)
  3. Install the rear shock absorber lower mounting bolts and nuts in the mounting brackets. Shock Absorber Replacement
  4. Remove the hydraulic jack from the rear drive axle.
  5. GM1963048
    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the rear brake junction block and mounting bolt on the rear axle housing and tighten to 22 N.m (16 lb ft)..

  6. GM1963052

    Install the rear brake line retaining bolt on the rear axle housing and tighten to 22 N.m (16 lb ft)..

  7. Install the rear drive axle vent hose.
  8. Install the rear stabilizer shaft on the rear drive axle. Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (With C7I)
  9. Install the rear brake calipers. Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH6) , or Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH9)
  10. Install the rear park brake cables on the rear brake calipers.
  11. Install the rear propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (With M5U) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (With MYD)
  12. Fill the rear drive axle with fluid. Differential Oil Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) , or Differential Oil Replacement (9.5 Inch Axle) 
  13. Install the tires and wheels. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Without Dual Rear Wheels) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With Dual Rear Wheels)
  14. Remove the jack stands from the from of the vehicle.
  15. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
