Removal Procedure
Refer to Brake Dust Warning .
- Disable the parking brake cable adjuster. Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Without Dual Rear Wheels) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With Dual Rear Wheels)
- NOTE:
Do not separate the brake rotor from the wheel hub.
Rear Brake Rotor and Hub Assembly (1) - Remove - Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement
Rear Parking Brake Shoe Adjuster Spring (1) - Remove
Rotate the rear parking brake shoe adjuster star wheel (2)to retract the rear parking brake shoes (3), if necessary.
Rear Parking Brake Shoe Adjuster (1) - Remove
- Disassemble and clean the rear parking brake shoe adjuster (1).
- Apply high temperature brake lubricant to the threads of the rear parking brake shoe adjuster (1)in the location shown by the arrow. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Assemble the rear parking brake shoe adjuster (1) to the fully retracted position.
- NOTE:
Use an appropriate tool to compress the rear parking brake shoe hold down spring and cup and rotate 1/4 turn to release.
Rear Parking Brake Shoe Hold Down Spring Cup (1) - Remove [2x]
- Rear Parking Brake Shoe Hold Down Spring (2) - Remove [2x]
- Rear Parking Brake Shoe Pin (3) - Remove [2x]
Spread the rear parking brake shoes (1)and pull upward and outward to release the rear parking brake shoes from the rear parking brake actuator lever (2).
- Remove the rear parking brake shoes (1)with the rear parking brake return springs as an assembly.
- NOTE:
Note the location of the rear parking brake return springs relative to the rear parking brake shoes for proper installation.
Rear Parking Brake Return Spring-Outboard (1) - Remove
- Rear Parking Brake Return Spring-Inboard (2) - Remove
- Rear Parking Brake Shoes (3) - Separate
- Clean the rear parking brake shoe contact surfaces on the rear brake shield.
