Removal Procedure
Refer to Diesel/Gasoline Vapors Warning .

An 8-digit part identification number is located on the fuel injection fuel rail. Refer to this number when servicing or replacing the unit.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)
- Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct - Remove - Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement
- Engine Cover - Remove - Engine Cover Replacement
At the right side of the intake manifold, disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1).
At the left side of the intake manifold, remove the engine wiring harness bracket nut (1).
- At the left side of the intake manifold, disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (2).
- Reposition the engine wiring harness (3) away from the intake manifold.
Remove the positive crankcase ventilation tube (1). Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement (Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct to Valve Rocker Arm Cover) , or Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement (Intake Manifold to Valve Rocker Arm cover)
- Remove the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid valve (2). Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve Replacement
- Disconnect the fuel feed pipe (3) from the fuel injection fuel rail. Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
At the right side of the intake manifold, remove the intake manifold bolt (1) and the fuel injection fuel rail bolts (2).
At the left side of the intake manifold, remove the fuel injection fuel rail bolts (1).
- CAUTION:
- Remove the fuel rail assembly carefully in order to prevent damage to the injector electrical connector terminals and the injector spray tips. Support the fuel rail after the fuel rail is removed in order to avoid damaging the fuel rail components.
- Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering open pipes and passages.
NOTE:- Before removal, clean the fuel injection fuel rail with a spray type engine cleaner, such as GM X-30A or equivalent. Follow the package instructions. Do NOT soak the fuel rail in liquid cleaning solvent.
- Lift evenly on both sides of the fuel injection fuel rail until all fuel injectors are loosened and can be removed with the fuel rail.
Remove the fuel injection fuel rail (1).
- Transfer or replace the fuel injectors as necessary. Fuel Injector Replacement (L96)
