Removal Procedure

CAUTION:
If a turbocharger has failed, clean any turbocharger debris or excessive oil from the charge air cooler system before installing the new turbocharger. Failure to clean debris from the charge air cooler system will cause severe turbocharger and engine damage upon startup. Failure to clean excessive oil from the charge air cooler system may cause an engine runaway condition on startup, resulting in severe engine damage.
- Remove the exhaust manifold. Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LWN) .
Remove the exhaust manifold to turbocharger nuts (1).
Remove the exhaust manifold to turbocharger nuts (1).
Separate the exhaust manifold (3) from the turbocharger (7).
- Remove and DISCARD the turbocharger gasket (4).
- For cleaning and inspection, refer to Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger Cleaning and Inspection .
- If installing a NEW turbocharger, perform the following.
- Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Manifold and Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger Removal
- Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Manifold and Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger Removal
- Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Manifold and Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger Removal
- Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Manifold and Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger Removal
NOTE:
Do not loosen or remove actuator from turbocharger bracket.
