Lubrication Description

The gerotor style oil pump (2) is attached to the balancer assembly and is gear driven by the crankshaft. The oil pump draws oil through the suction pipe (3) and provides pressurized oil to the engine oil filter/cooler assembly (1) through a passage in the block. A pressure relief valve is mounted to the front cover. An oil filter bypass valve is located under the oil filter cap and opens at 1. 5 bar. An anti-drainback valve is located at the oil inlet from the block. Cooled and filtered oil exits the oil filter/cooler assembly (2) and enters the main oil galley in the block. Branches from the main oil galley feed the following components:
- Cylinder head
Cam bearings
- Piston oil jets, opening pressure 1. 5 bar
- Main bearings
- Crankshaft
- Connecting rod bearings
- Vacuum pump
- Balance shaft (2. 8L)
- Turbocharger
Oil drainback passages on both sides of the cylinder head and block return oil to the pan.
