Removal Procedure
Engine Cover (1) - Remove - Engine Cover Replacement
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)
- Recover the HVAC refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LC8, LV1, L96) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 LC8, LV1, L96)
- Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Left Side (2) - Remove - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Right Side (2) - Remove - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Right Side
Air Cleaner Assembly (4) - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Coolant Recovery Reservoir (1) - Remove - Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement (LV1)
Remove both headlamps (2). Front Headlamp Replacement
Front Bumper Impact Bar (2) - Remove - Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement
Remove both fuel injection fuel rails (1). Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 1 , and Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 2
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose (2) @ Radiator - Remove
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Clip (1) - Remove
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Clip (1) - Remove
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Vent Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
- NOTE:
Cap the openings to prevent contamination.
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe (1) - Remove - Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection
Engine Oil Cooler Pipe (2) - Remove - Engine Oil Cooler Pipe Replacement (LV1)
Air Conditioning Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Remove - Air Conditioning Condenser Hose Replacement (LV1)
Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Remove - Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C60) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C69)
Junction Block Cover (2) - Remove
- Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) - Remove
- Battery Positive Cable (3) - Remove
Disconnect the release cable (1) from the hood primary latch.
- Disconnect electrical connection and harness retainers at radiator support.
Radiator Lower Support Bolt (1) - Remove [8x]
- With the aid of an assistant, remove the core support assembly (2) with the radiator, condenser, radiator hoses and fan shroud intact.
Fan Blade (1) - Remove - Fan Blade Replacement (LV1)
Drive Belt (1) - Remove - Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory
Air Conditioning Compressor (2) - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LV1)
Heater Inlet Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
Heater Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Heater Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
- Intake Manifold - Remove - Intake Manifold Replacement
Ignition Coil (2) - Remove [6x] - Ignition Coil Replacement
- Power Steering Pump - Remove - Power Steering Pump Replacement (With LV1)
- Raise the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
Starter (1) - Remove - Starter Replacement (LV1)
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut (1) @ Left Side - Remove [3x]
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut (1) @ Right Side - Remove [3x]
- Disconnect the warm up three-way catalytic converter from the exhaust manifolds.
- Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
- The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
- The engine oil level sensor
- The coolant heater, if equipped
- Gather all the engine wiring harness and reposition off to the side.
Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts (1).
Disconnect the transmission vent hose retainer (1) from the engine.
Remove the nuts (1, 4) and position the brackets (2, 3) aside
Remove the bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) securing the transmission to the engine.
Remove the right side transmission bolt (1).
Remove the lower transmission bolts (1).
- Lower the vehicle.
Exhaust Manifold- Right Side (1) - Remove - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (LV1)
Exhaust Manifold- Left Side (1) - Remove - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (LV1)
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder heads.
Tighten
- Tighten the M8 engine lift bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Tighten the M10 engine lift bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
Engine Mount Bolt- Left Side (1) @ Frame - Remove [3x]
Engine Mount Bolt- Right Side (1) @ Frame - Remove [3x]
- Remove the lower intermediate steering shaft. Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Install a floor jack under the transmission for support.
- Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
- Install an engine hoist to the J 36857-1 lift bracket.
- Install the J 21366 holding strap to the transmission in order to hold the torque converter.
- Separate the engine from the automatic transmission.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the engine out of the vehicle while checking for component interference.
- Install the engine to an engine stand.
- Remove the engine hoist.
- Remove the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.
