Installation Procedure
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder heads.
Tighten
- Tighten the M8 engine lift bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Tighten the M10 engine lift bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install an engine hoist to the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket.
- Remove the engine from the engine stand.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the engine into the vehicle wile checking for component interference.
- Align the engine and transmission.
Engine Mount Bolt- Right Side (1) @ Frame - Install [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side
Engine Mount Bolt- Left Side (1) @ Frame - Install [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side
Install the bolts (3, 4) securing the transmission to the engine. Transmission Replacement (With LV1 Engine)
- Remove the floor jack from under the transmission.
- Remove the engine hoist.
- Remove the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.
- Connect electrical connectors as necessary.
- Install the lower intermediate steering shaft. Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
Exhaust Manifold- Right Side (1) - Install - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (LV1)
Exhaust Manifold- Left Side (1) - Install - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (LV1)
- Raise the vehicle.
Install the lower transmission bolts (1). Transmission Replacement (With LV1 Engine)
Install the right side transmission bolt (1). Transmission Replacement (With LV1 Engine)
Install the bolts (1, 2, 5) securing the transmission to the engine. Transmission Replacement (With LV1 Engine)
Connect the transmission vent hose retainer (1) from the engine.
Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts (1). Transmission Replacement (With LV1 Engine)
- Connect the following electrical connectors:
- Crankshaft position sensor
- Engine oil level sensor
- Coolant heater, if equipped
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut (1) @ Right Side - Install [3x] - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LV1)
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut (1) @ Left Side - Install [3x] - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LV1)
Starter (1) - Install - Starter Replacement (LV1)
- Lower the vehicle.
Install both fuel injection fuel rails (1). Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 1 , and Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 2
- Power Steering Pump - Install - Power Steering Pump Replacement (With LV1)
Ignition Coil (2) - Install [6x] - Ignition Coil Replacement
- Intake Manifold - Install - Intake Manifold Replacement
Heater Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install
- Heater Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install
- Heater Inlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Air Conditioning Compressor (2) - Install - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LV1)
Fan Blade (1) - Install - Fan Blade Replacement (LV1)
- Intake Manifold - Install - Intake Manifold Replacement
Radiator Lower Support (2) - Install - Radiator Support Replacement
- Connect electrical connection and harness retainers at radiator support.
Connect the release cable (1) from the hood primary latch.
Battery Positive Cable (3) - Install
- Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) - Install Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LV1 with K68 and K4B) , or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LV1 with KG4/KW5 and K4B) , or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LV1 with K68) , or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LV1 with KG4/KW5)
- Junction Block Cover (2) - Install
Air Conditioning Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install - Air Conditioning Condenser Hose Replacement (LV1)
Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install - Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C60) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C69)
Engine Oil Cooler Pipe (2) - Install - Engine Oil Cooler Pipe Replacement (LV1)
- NOTE:
Cap the openings to prevent contamination.
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe (1) - Install - Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection
Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install
- Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Clip (1) - Install
Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Clip (1) - Install
Front Bumper Impact Bar (2) - Install - Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement
Install both headlamps (2). Front Headlamp Replacement
Air Cleaner Assembly (4) - Install - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
- Install the coolant reservoir. Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement (LV1)
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Right Side (2) - Install - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Right Side
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Left Side (2) - Install - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side
- Fill the cooling system with coolant. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LC8, LV1, L96) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 LC8, LV1, L96)
- If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing
- Perform the CKP system variation learn procedure. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn
- If the engine has been overhauled, use the following procedure to test the engine after it is installed in the vehicle.
- Disable the ignition system.
- Crank the engine several times. Listen for any unusual noises or evidence that parts are binding.
- Enable the ignition system.
- Start the engine and listen for unusual noises.
- Check the vehicle oil pressure gauge or light and confirm that the engine has acceptable oil pressure.
- Run the engine speed at about 1, 000 RPM until the engine has reached normal operating temperature.
- Listen for sticking lifter and other unusual noises.
- Inspect for fuel, oil and/or coolant leaks while the engine is running.
- Perform a final inspection for the proper engine oil and coolant levels.
Engine Cover (1) - Install - Engine Cover Replacement
Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.
