Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Installation

1 Flex Plate
NOTE:

The flex plate does not use a locating pin for alignment and will not initially seat against the crankshaft flange, but will be pulled onto the crankshaft by the engine flex plate bolts. This procedure requires a 3 stage tightening process.

2 Flex Plate Bolt [8x]
CAUTION:

This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Tighten the engine flex plate bolts (1 - 8) a first pass in sequence to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
  2. Tighten the engine flex plate bolts (1 - 8) a second pass in sequence to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
  3. Tighten the engine flex plate bolts (1 - 8) a final pass in sequence an additional 45 degrees using EN-45059  angle meter.

Use NEW bolts.
