Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the KR20F Cooling Fan Relay.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the fan relay ground circuit terminal 86 and ground.
    • If 5 Ω or greater 
    1. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 5 Ω 
  3. Disconnect the harness connector at the Q85 Cooling Fan Clutch.
  4. Test for less than 5 Ω between the Q85 Cooling Fan Clutch ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If 5 Ω or greater 
    1. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 5 Ω 
  5. Install the KR20F Cooling Fan Relay.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the Q85 Cooling Fan Clutch control circuit terminal 2 and ground, engine running.
  7. Verify a test lamp illuminates and flashes ON and OFF while commanding the Cooling Fan to 50 % with a scan tool.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate 
    1. Ignition OFF, and all vehicle systems OFF, it may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance.
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω between the cooling fan clutch circuit terminal B and the cooling fan relay terminal 4.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the KR20F Cooling Fan Relay.
    • If the test lamp illuminates without flashing 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the KR20F Cooling Fan Relay, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the solenoid valve control circuit terminal B and ground.
      • If greater than 1 V, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the KR20F Cooling Fan Relay.
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp flashes 
  8. Test or replace the cooling fan clutch assembly.
