Circuit/System Verification

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 GMC Savana 3500, 2019 GMC Savana 2500, 2019 Chevrolet Express 3500, and 2019 Chevrolet Express 2500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

Do not have a battery charger connected during the generator testing.

  1. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  2. Verify the charge indicator is On while the instrument cluster performs the bulb check. Approximately 4 seconds.
    • If the indicator is Off during the bulb check. Approximately 4 seconds

      Replace P16 Instrument Cluster

    • Go to next step: If the indicator is On during the bulb check. Approximately 4 seconds
  3. Verify there are no DTCs set related to the following system/component:
    • B18 Battery Current Sensor (If applicable)
    • B110 Battery Sensor Module (If applicable)
    • G13 Generator
    • Energy Management
    • Stop/Start System (KL9)
    • Go to next step: If no DTC is set
  4. Increase the engine speed slowly to 2500 RPM. All accessories OFF.
  5. Verify the scan tool Battery Voltage parameter is between 12.0 - 15.8 V
    • If not between 12.0 - 15.8 V

      Refer to Circuit System Testing

    • Go to next step: If between 12.0 - 15.8 V
  6. Turn the following components ON:
    • Headlamps
    • Rear Defogger
    • Blower Motor at maximum speed
  7. Increase the engine speed slowly to 2500 RPM. Verify the scan tool Battery Voltage parameter is between 12.6 - 15.8 V.
    • If not between 12.6 - 15.8 V

      Refer to Circuit System Testing

    • Go to next step: If between 12.6 - 15.8 V
  8. Verify the charge indicator on the instrument cluster is Off and the Driver Information Center (DIC) does not display any charging system error message.
    • If the indicator is On

      Refer to Circuit System Testing

    • Go to next step: If the indicator is Off
  9. Verify the scan tool Body Control Module Battery Voltage parameter increases when controlling the Body Control Module Generator Regulator Setpoint from 40% to 80% with a scan tool. It may take up to 10 s for the battery voltage to stabilize between each Setpoint change.

Refer to Charging System Description and Operation .

    • If the battery voltage does not increase

      Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

    • Go to next step: If the battery voltage increases
  10. All OK.
