Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify a blockage or restriction does not exist in the EVAP system components listed below.

    Verify the following conditions do not exist:

    • Damaged, defective, or loose component:
      • Fuel Tank Filler Cap or Capless Type Fuel Fill
      • Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve
      • Evaporative Emission Pipe - Kinked or Disconnected
      • EVAP Vent Solenoid Valve
      • Evaporative Emission Canister
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair or replace as necessary.

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  2. Install any previously removed components.
  3. Remove the component: Fuel Tank Filler Cap - If equipped
  4. Install the special tool: CH-41415-30 Fuel Tank Cap Adapter or Install the special tool: GE-41415-60 Engine Induction System Leak Test Adapter/Capless Fuel Fill Adapter - Capless Type Fuel Fill
  5. Connect the special tool: GE-41413-A / B Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) @ CH-41415-30 Fuel Tank Cap Adapter or GE-41415-60 Engine Induction System Leak Test Adapter/Capless Fuel Fill Adapter
  6. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  7. Perform the scan tool function: EVAP Purge/Seal - Not Venting
  8. Use the tool to achieve a gauge reading of 1.24 kPa (0.01 bar, 5.0 in H2O). GE-41413-A / B Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) - Nitrogen
    NOTE:

    Do NOT exceed the specified value or incorrect test results may occur.

  9. Perform the scan tool function: EVAP Purge/Seal - Venting
  10. Verify the scan tool parameter: Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor = 0 mmHg (0 in. H2O)
    • If not the specified value 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Verify a blockage or a restriction does not exist in the EVAP vent hose or inlet.
      • If a condition exists 

        Repair or replace as necessary.

      • Go to next step: If no condition exists 

        Go to next step: Replace the component: Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve

    • Go to next step: If the specified value 
  11. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
    • If the DTC sets 

      Refer to step 1

    • Go to next step: If the DTC does not set 
  12. All OK.
