Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:
- X154 Inline Harness Connector
- X159 Inline Harness Connector
- X177 Inline Harness Connector
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal E & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal E @ Component harness & Terminal X2 29 @ Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Perform the scan tool control function: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Off
Verify a test lamp does not turn On between the test points: Control circuit terminal D & Ground
- If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal D @ Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp does not turn On
- Remove - Test Lamp
- Perform the scan tool control function: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - On
Verify the scan tool parameter: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status = OK
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal D @ Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Control circuit terminal D & Ground
- Perform the scan tool control function: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - On
Verify the scan tool parameter: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status = Malfunction
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Jumper wire(s)
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal D @ Component harness & Terminal 11 X2 @ Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Verify DTC P0011 is not set.
- If the DTC is set
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component:
- Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Binding or Sticking - Refer to: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Inspection (Off-Vehicle) , or Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Inspection (On-Vehicle)
- Camshaft Position Actuator - Damaged or misaligned reluctor ring. - Refer to: Camshaft Position Actuator Cleaning and Inspection
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- If no condition exists - Refer to: Component Testing
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- Test or replace the component: Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
