Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a) , or Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
- Intake Manifold Insulator - Remove - Intake Manifold Insulator Replacement
Air Cleaner Assembly (1) - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
- Remove both front wheelhouse liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect@Transmission Control Module - Transmission Control Module Replacement (Except V18) , or Transmission Control Module Replacement (V18)
- Detach the harness retainer (2)
Remove the battery terminal (1) from the jump start post.
- Remove the engine wiring harness junction block. Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement
- Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement (LT1) , or Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement (LT4)
- Detach necessary engine harness retainers and reposition the engine harness on the engine.
{ If equipped }Disconnect the engine heater cord retainers and reposition the harness on the engine.
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @Water Outlet - Disconnect
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (2) @Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Disconnect
Radiator Outlet Hose (1) - Remove - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LGX without V18) , or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LGX with V18) , or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LGX with KC4 without V18)
Heater Inlet Hose (1) @Heater Core - Disconnect
Heater Outlet Hose (1) @Heater Core - Disconnect
- Heater Outlet Hose (1) @Radiator Surge Tank - Disconnect
Fuel Line (1) @Fuel Feed Pipe - Disconnect - Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LGX at Engine) , or Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Fuel Tank To Engine LGX)
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Remove - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement
Power Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor (1) - Disconnect
- Using mechanics wire, support the radiator assembly to the vehicle body.
Air Conditioning Compressor Hose (1) @Air Conditioning Compressor - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LGX without J6G) , or Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LGX with J6G)
- Engine Coolant Fan Electrical Connector - Disconnect - Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LGX Without V03) , or Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LGX With V03)
- Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield - Remove - Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (Coupe - LGX, LTG)
Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield (4) - Remove - Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe@Radiator Assembly - Disconnect [2x] - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With M13, With 1LE Package) , or Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With M5T, With V03) , or Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With M5T, Without V03)
- Catalytic Converter@Right Side - Remove - Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LT1, LT4)
Disconnect the transmission range selector lever cable terminal (1) from the transmission manual shift lever pin.
- Remove the transmission range selector lever cable bolt (4).
- Slide the retainer (3) forward to release the transmission range selector lever cable (6) from the bracket.
- Remove the two cable retainer bolts (7) from the transmission crossmember.
- Remove the front cradle shear plate. Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor brackets from the transmission.
- Remove the starter. Starter Replacement (LGX)
- Torque Converter Cover- Right Side - Remove - Transmission Converter Cover Replacement (Right Side) , or Transmission Converter Cover Replacement (LGX)
Remove the transmission close out plug (1).
- Mark the torque converter to flex plate orientation to ensure proper realignment.
Repeat the following steps for all of the torque converter bolts (1) :
- Rotate the crankshaft balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, in order to align the torque converter bolt with the starter opening.
- Remove and DISCARD the torque converter bolt.
- Secure the vehicle body to the vehicle hoist using suitable straps or binders.
- Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with the powertrain attached. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX - Coupe) , or Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX - Convertible)
- Lower the powertrain onto a suitable support table.
- Secure the powertrain to the support table using straps and binders.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the frame.
- Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil cooler lines
- Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement
Removing the powertrain assembly from the vehicle could cause an unstable balance condition with the vehicle body on the vehicle hoist. Securing the vehicle body to the hoist is necessary.
The powertrain assembly will be removed from vehicle on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. In the next step, only perform the necessary procedures required to remove the powertrain assembly.
