Engine Flywheel Removal

Preliminary Procedure

  1. To prevent crankshaft rotation, install EN-51760  holding tool and starter motor bolts at the starter motor location, engaging the flywheel.
  2. Install EN-51701-1  aligner to the front secondary mass component of the flywheel.
  3. Evaluate the flywheel condition prior to removal from the engine. Refer to Dual Mass Flywheel Mounted Inspection in Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection .

1 Engine Flywheel Bolt [8x]

Procedure

  1. As necessary, rotate the front secondary mass component of the flywheel using EN-51701-1 aligner and a breaker bar to align the holes in the secondary mass with the flywheel bolts in the primary mass.
  2. Remove and discard the engine flywheel bolts.
  3. Install EN-51701-2  holder through the secondary mass into the primary mass to lock the flywheel in alignment.

2 Engine Flywheel

Procedure

  1. Remove the flywheel.
  2. If flywheel is suitable for re-installation, leave EN-51701  aligner and holder installed to flywheel for ease of install.
  3. If flywheel is not suitable for re-installation, remove EN-51701  aligner and holder and discard the flywheel.
  4. Remove EN-51760  holding tool from the starter mount.
