Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition = Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X175@T12 Automatic Transmission Assembly
  3. Test for less than 5 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 30 & Ground
    • If 5 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 30 & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If less than 5 ohms 
  4. Ignition = On
  5. Test for 8. 3 to 9. 3 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & Ground
    • If 9. 3 V or greater
    1. Ignition = Off
    2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Ignition = On
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
    • If less than 8. 3 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    5. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    6. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    7. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
      • Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
    8. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If between 8. 3 and 9. 3 V 
  6. Verify the scan tool parameter: Internal Mode Switch = High
    • If not the specified state 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the specified state 
  7. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & Ground
  8. Verify the scan tool parameter: 9V Reference Circuit 1 = Low
    • If not the specified state 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Remove - Jumper Wire
    3. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
    5. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 1 Terminal 31 & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
  9. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & Ground
  10. Verify the scan tool parameter: 9V Reference Circuit 2 = Low
    • If not the specified state 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Remove - Jumper Wire
    3. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
    5. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 9V Reference Circuit 2 Terminal 29 & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the specified state 
  11. Test for 11 to 13 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35@X175 & Ground
    • If not between 11 and 13 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35@X175 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35@X175 & Ground
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If between 11 and 13 V 
  12. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 35 & Ground circuit terminal 30@X175
  13. Verify the scan tool parameter: Park/Neutral Position Switch = Park/Neutral
    • If not the specified state 

      Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module

    • Go to next step: If the specified state
