Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side (LT4)

Callout Component Name
1 Exhaust Manifold Gasket
NOTE:

Use a NEW gasket.

2 Exhaust Manifold
3 Exhaust Manifold Bolt (Qty: 5)
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

CAUTION:

This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

Procedure

    NOTE:

    The cylinder head exhaust manifold bolt hole threads must be clean and free of debris or threadlocking material.

  1. Install New Bolts
  2. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in the sequence shown.

Tighten in sequence - New Cylinder Head 
  1. First Pass: 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
  2. Second Pass: Loosen 180 degrees.
  3. Final Pass: 23 N.m (17 lb ft)

Tighten in sequence - Existing Cylinder Head 
23 N.m (17 lb ft)
4 Heat Shield
5 Heat Shield Bolts (Qty: 3)
Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
6 Heat Shield
7 Heat Shield Bolts (Qty: 3)
Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
8 Spark Plug Wires
NOTE:
  • Only apply dielectric grease to the spark plug side of the spark plug wire boot.
  • When installing the wires, one audible click should be heard at the spark plug end and two audible clicks should be heard at the ignition coil end.

Procedure 
  1. Inspect the inside of the spark plug wire boot for a thin, even coat of grease. If there is no grease present or additional grease is necessary, complete the following procedure:
    1. Apply a thin coating of dielectric grease evenly to the inside of the spark plug wire boot, up to a depth of 15 mm from the end of the boot. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
    2. Remove any excess grease from around the end of the boot, and ensure there is not an excessive amount within the boot.
