Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Drain the fuel tank. Fuel Tank Draining
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Exhaust Muffler Assembly - Remove
- Nitrogen Oxides Catalytic Converter - Remove - Nitrogen Oxides Catalytic Converter Replacement
- {If equipped} Exhaust Rear Muffler - Remove - Exhaust Rear Muffler Replacement (Hatchback)
- {If equipped} Exhaust Tail Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Tail Pipe Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7 - Hatchback)
- Fuel Tank Heat Shield - Remove - Fuel Tank Heat Shield Replacement (1.4L LE2, and 1.6L Diesel LH7 - Notchback)Fuel Tank Heat Shield Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7 - Hatchback)
Parking Brake Cable (2) @ Parking Brake Cable Bracket (1) - Remove
- Parking Brake Cable (2) @ Retainer (4) - Remove [2x]
- Parking Brake Cable Nut (3) - Remove [2x]
Parking Brake Rear Cable Bolt (3) - Remove - Both Sides
- Parking Brake Cable (1) @ Parking Brake Cable Bracket (2) - Remove - Both Sides
- Parking Brake Cable - Position aside - Both Sides
Loosen the clamp. (3)
- Fuel Tank Filler Hose (2) - Remove
- Fuel Tank Vent Pipe (1) - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Close all connections with suitable closure plugs.
Retainer Clip (2) - Remove
- Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Close all connections with suitable closure plugs.
Fuel Return Pipe (1) - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Close all connections with suitable closure plugs.
Disconnect the electrical connector. (1)
Support the fuel tank with a suitable jack. (3)
- Fuel Tank Strap Bolt (4) - Remove [4x]
- Fuel Tank Strap (2) - Remove [2x]
- Remove the fuel tank (1) by retracting the jack (3).
- Remove the fuel tank (1) from the hydraulic jack (3).
NOTE:
Do not cut the exhaust system.
NOTE:
A second technician is required.
