Removal Procedure

CAUTION:
It is essential to work in a clean environment for the entire operation. Dirt particles in the area of the metering unit MUST be avoided. Even small dirt particles (0.3 mm (0.012 in)), invisible to the naked eye, can affect engine performance. Failure to take the following precautions could cause major damage to the metering unit:
- Do not wear gloves.
- Do not use any metering unit that has been dropped.
- Disconnect the battery after fault tracing. Before using the metering unit, wait a few minutes to prevent the system from functioning before the repair is complete.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7) .
Disconnect the fuel injection pump metering valve electrical connector (2).
- Remove the 2 fuel injection pump metering valve bolts (1).
- Remove the fuel injection pump metering valve (3) from the fuel injection pump.
Remove and DISCARD the fuel injection pump metering valve seal ring (1).
- Clean the sealing surface (2).
Inspect the 2 fuel supply bores (1) for contamination.
- Remove and DISCARD the seal ring from the metering valve.
