Oil Pump Cleaning and Inspection (LT1 with Z52 Option, LT4)
- NOTE:
The internal components of the oil pump assembly are not serviced separately. If the oil pump components are worn or damaged, replace the oil pump as an assembly.
Clean the components in solvent.
- Dry the components with compressed air.
- Inspect the oil pump housings (7, 17), intermediate housing (14), and the housing cover (3) for cracks, excessive wear, scoring, or casting/machining imperfections.
- Inspect the primary pump housing-to-oil pan sealing surface for scratches or gouging.
- Inspect the primary pump base-to-engine block oil gallery surfaces for scratches or gouging.
- Inspect the oil pump base for damaged bolt hole threads.
- Inspect the primary pump slide (13) for excessive wear, scoring, or gouges.
- Inspect the oil pump internal oil passages for restrictions
- Inspect the primary pump rotor (10) and vanes (9) for cracks, wear, or damage.
- Inspect the secondary pump drive gear (4) and driven gear (5) for chipping, galling or wear.
- Inspect the primary pump slide spring (21) for breakage.
- Inspect the primary pump slide (13) and slide seals (12) for cuts or damage.
- Inspect the Oil Pressure Relief Valve Plug (18) for leaks or damage.
