Component Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Buick Encore. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Static Test

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve
  3. Test for 20 to 26 ohms between the test points: Control terminal 2 & 12 V Reference terminal 1
    • If not between 20 and 26 ohms 

      Replace the component:Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve

    • Go to next step: If between 20 and 26 ohms 
  4. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Each terminal of the component & The component's housing
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Replace the component: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve

    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance 
  5. All OK.

Dynamic Test

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve
  3. Connect a 10 A fused jumper wire between the test points: 12 V Reference terminal 1 & 12 V
    4. CAUTION:

    Complete the testing as quickly as possible in order to prevent overheating and damaging the component.

  4. Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points:Control terminal 1 & Ground

    Verify the component turns On and Off when connecting and disconnecting the jumper wire:Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve

    • If the component does not turn On and Off 

      Replace the component: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve

    • Go to next step: If the component turns On and Off 
  5. All OK.
