Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Buick Encore. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition/Vehicle Off and all vehicle systems Off, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 2 or B and ground.
- If 5 Ω or greater
- Ignition/Vehicle Off, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Go to next step: If less than 5 Ω
- Engine Running.
- Verify the appropriate scan tool Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status does not display Malfunction.
- If Malfunction is displayed
- Ignition/Vehicle Off, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module, ignition On/Vehicle in Service Mode.
- Test for less than 1 V between the control circuit and ground.
- If greater than 1 V, repair the short to voltage on the control circuit.
- If less than 1 V, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Go to next step: If Malfunction is not displayed
- Ignition/Vehicle Off, install a 5 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 1 or A and B+, engine Running.
- Verify the appropriate scan tool Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status displays Malfunction.
- If Malfunction is not displayed
- Ignition/Vehicle Off, remove the fused jumper, and disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the control circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the control circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Go to next step: If Malfunction is displayed
- Test or replace the Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve.
