Removal Procedure

  1. Engine Front Cover Replacement  - Remove
  2. Set the engine to top dead center (TDC).
  3. GM3977683

    Inspect the timing chain marks (1, 2, and 3) to confirm they are properly aligned.

  4. GM4091100

    Install camshaft holding tool EN-51367  (1).

  5. GM3936517

    Reset the tensioner plunger (1). Timing Chain Tensioner Replacement 

  6. GM3977663

    Timing Chain Tensioner Shoe Bolt(1) - Remove

  7. Timing Chain Tensioner Shoe(2) - Remove
  8. NOTE:

    It is not necessary to remove the timing chain from the sprockets.

  9. Inspect, timing components as necessary. For camshaft timing chain, oil nozzle, sprocket and tensioner cleaning and inspection. Camshaft Timing Chain and Sprocket Cleaning and Inspection
