Installation Procedure

  1. GM3977663

    Timing Chain Tensioner Shoe(2) - Install

  2. Timing Chain Tensioner Shoe Bolt(1) - Install and tighten 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
  3. GM3689090

    Install a NEW gasket.(2)

  4. Timing Chain Tensioner(1) - Install
  5. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  6. Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt(4) - Install and tighten 25 N.m (18 lb ft)[2x].
  7. Remove the suitable tool (3) from the timing chain tensioner.

    Remove the EN-51367  holder (1).

  9. Timing Chain Upper Guide Replacement  - Install
  10. Check the position of the crankshaft, camshaft and camshaft position actuator adjuster.
    1. TEMPORARILY install the engine front cover with 4 bolts and the crankshaft balancer.
    2. GM3682494

      Turn crankshaft 720 degrees in the direction of engine rotation by the crankshaft balancer bolt (3).

    NOTE:

    If the EN-51367  holder (1) can be installed, the engine timing is properly adjusted. If the EN-51367  holder (1) can not be installed, confirm the engine is set to cylinder 1 top dead center (TDC) of combustion stroke.

    Install the EN-51367  holder (1).

  12. Remove the EN-51367  holder.
  13. Remove the TEMPORARILY installed engine front cover and crankshaft balancer.

  17. Camshaft Cover Replacement  - Install
