Engine Block Deck Flatness Inspection

  1. GM3620965

    Ensure the engine block deck surface is clean and free of gasket material.

  2. Inspect the surface for any imperfections or scratches that could inhibit proper cylinder head gasket sealing.
  3. Using a straight-edge placed diagonally across the deck surface, measure the engine block - cylinder head deck surface for flatness using a feeler gauge. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
  4. If the cylinder head deck surface flatness is more than the specified amount, replace the engine.
