Turbocharger and Components Cleaning and Inspection

Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove all components.
  2. Completely inspect the turbocharger and all other engine components that may cause similar conditions before replacing the turbocharger. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical .
  3. Clean all mating surfaces.
  4. Inspect all threaded holes for damage.
1 Compressor Out to Solenoid Hose
2 Wastegate Actuator to Solenoid Hose
3 Compressor In to Solenoid Hose
4 Charge Air Bypass Valve Bolt/Washer
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Tighten 
8 N.m (71 lb in)
5 Charge Air Bypass Valve
6 Wastegate Actuator Nut (Qty: 2)
Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
7 Wastegate Actuator Arm Retaining Clip
8 Wastegate Actuator Assembly
Procedure 
Inspect the wastegate regulator mechanism for functionality.
9 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid Bolt (Qty: 3)
Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
10 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid
11 Turbocharger

Procedure

  1. Inspect the compressor and turbine for bent or broken blades and foreign material. PCV fluids and combustion product buildup are common and not a sign of failure.
  2. Inspect the mating surfaces for flatness.
  3. Replace the turbocharger if damage is found.
12 Turbocharger Heat Shield
