Removal Procedure
When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley, or damage may occur.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) .

- Exhaust Manifold - Left side - RemoveExhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (L83, L86)
.CAUTION:
With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components:
- The steering column
- The intermediate shaft(s)
- The steering gear
After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has became un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil's centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.
- With the front wheels of the vehicle in the stright ahead position, use the CH-42640 Anti-Rotation Pin to lock the steering column.
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) » Remove
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Nut (2) » Remove
- Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (3) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft » Separate
- Remove and DISCARD the 3 engine mount to frame bolts (1).
- Position a screw jack and a block of wood under the lower engine oil pan.
- Remove the 4 engine mount to engine block bolts (1).
- Remove the engine mount (1).
