Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2018 GMC Yukon XL, 2018 GMC Yukon, 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2018 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. For cylinder head assemble. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble .
  2. Clean any debris or residual fastener thread sealant from the engine block cylinder head bolt holes to ensure proper torque or clamp load.
  3. Fig 1: NEW Cylinder Head Gasket

  4. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket (1).
  5. Install cylinder head (2).
  6. Hand start cylinder head bolts (3 and 4).
  7. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    NOTE:

    The forward most fastener on the Left Side Cylinder Head is unique to all other cylinder head fasteners. It is shorter, has an internal hex drive and has a lower final tightening torque angle.

  8. Tighten cylinder head bolts (4) in sequence.
    1. First Pass tighten to 80 N.m (59 lb ft)
    2. Second pass tighten + 90°
    3. Final pass tighten + 60°
  9. Tighten cylinder head bolt (3) in sequence.
    1. First Pass tighten to 80 N.m (59 lb ft)
    2. Second pass tighten + 90°
    3. Final pass tighten + 40°
  10. Connect electrical connectors as necessary.
  11. Install the valve rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  12. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (L83, L86) .
  13. Install the fuel injector rail. Refer to Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 1 .
  14. Refill the coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill L83 L86)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill L83 L86) .
