Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2018 GMC Yukon XL, 2018 GMC Yukon, 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2018 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition OFF, all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Verify less than 5 Ω between the X3 harness connector high control circuit terminal 32 and the low control circuit terminal 16.NOTE:
- The DMM and test leads must be calibrated to 0 Ω in order to prevent misdiagnosis.
- To prevent terminal damage, verify the proper test adaptors are used according to the COMPONENT CONNECTOR END VIEWS - INDEX list.
- If 5 Ω or greater
- Disconnect the harness connector at the G18 High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the low control circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- Go to next step : If less than 2 Ω
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the high control circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, test or replace the G18 High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- Go to next step : If less than 5 Ω
- Test for infinite resistance between the X3 harness connector low control circuit terminal 16 and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance
- Disconnect the harness connector at the G18 High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- Test for infinite resistance between the low control circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step : If infinite resistance
- Test for infinite resistance between the high control circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance, test or replace the G18 High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- Go to next step : If infinite resistance
- Ignition ON.
- Verify less than 1 V between the X3 harness connector low control circuit terminal 16 and ground.
- If 1 V or greater
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the G18 High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- Ignition ON.
- Test for less than 1 V between the low control circuit and ground.
- If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the low control circuit.
- If less than 1 V, repair the short to voltage on the high control circuit.
- Go to next step : If less than 1 V
- Replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
