Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (without Engine Block Heater)Battery Tray Replacement (with Engine Block Heater) .
  2. Without draining the coolant or removing the hoses, remove and position aside the radiator surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .
  3. Remove the transmission range selector lever cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .

    Disconnect the park/neutral position (PNP) switch electrical connector (1).

  5. Disconnect the primary speed sensor electrical connector (2).
  6. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector (3)
  7. Unclip the connector clip (4) and wiring harness retainers (5) from the transmission and brackets.
  8. Unclip the transmission air breather hose clip (6) from engine wiring harness bracket.

    Disconnect the secondary speed sensor electrical connector (1).

  10. Disconnect the output speed sensor electrical connector (2).
  11. Unclip the wiring harness retainers (3) from the transmission and engine starter cable bracket.

    Rotate bayonet ring (3) counterclockwise to pull out the transmission wiring harness electrical connector upward and disconnect it.

  13. Remove the transmission fluid cooler pipes from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement .
  14. Plug and/or cap the pipes and transmission to prevent contamination.
  15. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to repair Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill (Maintenance) Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill (Repair) .
  16. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (L5Q)Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LV7) .
  17. Remove the front wheel drive shaft from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .

    Remove the transmission wiring harness bracket bolt (1) and the bracket (2) from the transmission.

    Remove the transmission upper bolts (1) and nut (2).

  20. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (LV7)Engine Support Fixture .
  21. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (without Start/Stop)Starter Replacement (LV7) .

    Remove and discard the 4 torque converter bolts (1).

  23. Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement .
  24. Remove the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .
  25. Remove the left transmission mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side .
  26. Remove the left transmission mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side .
  27. Use a transmission jack in order to support the transmission.
  28. Use a suitable jack stand in order to support the engine.

    Remove the transmission lower bolts (1).

  30. Remove the engine starter cable bracket (2), oxygen sensor connector bracket (3) and the clutch housing cover (4).
  31. NOTE:

    Ensure the torque converter remains securely in place on the transmission input shaft while separating and removing the transmission.

  32. Separate the transmission from the engine.
  33. Lower the transmission with the transmission jack far enough to remove the transmission.
  34. Inspect the transmission oil cooler and lines for leaks or damage.
