Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary
- When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616 GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
- It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the ground connection: G110
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 @ Component harness & Terminal G110
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for greater than 10 V between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 4 & Ground circuit terminal 1
- If less than 10 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Remove the component: KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay @ X50B Fuse Block - Underhood Auxiliary
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay - Terminal D1 @ X50B Fuse Block - Underhood Auxiliary
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay - Terminal D1 @ X50B Fuse Block - Underhood Auxiliary
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay
- Go to next step: If greater than 10 V
- Test for 10 to 13 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground circuit terminal 1 @ Component harness
- If less than 10 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Terminal 10 @ Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- If greater than 13 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
NOTE:Internal control module or component damage may occur if the circuit shorts to B+.
- Go to next step: If between 9 and 13 V
- Test for 9 to 12 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 & Control circuit terminal 3
- If less than 9 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Control circuit terminal 6 @ Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If greater than 12 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If between 9 and 13 V
- Test or replace the component: G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
