Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary
  3. NOTE:
    • When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616  GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
    • It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
  4. Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 & Ground
    • If 10 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the ground connection: G110
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 @ Component harness & Terminal G110
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms 
  5. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  6. Test for greater than 10 V between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 4 & Ground circuit terminal 1
    • If less than 10 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Remove the component: KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay @ X50B Fuse Block - Underhood Auxiliary
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay - Terminal D1 @ X50B Fuse Block - Underhood Auxiliary
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay - Terminal D1 @ X50B Fuse Block - Underhood Auxiliary
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: KR108 Transmission Hydraulics Oil Pump Relay
    • Go to next step: If greater than 10 V 
  7. Test for 10 to 13 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground circuit terminal 1 @ Component harness
    • If less than 10 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Terminal 10 @ Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • If greater than 13 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. NOTE:

      Internal control module or component damage may occur if the circuit shorts to B+.

    5. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If between 9 and 13 V 
  8. Test for 9 to 12 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 & Control circuit terminal 3
    • If less than 9 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Control circuit terminal 6 @ Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If greater than 12 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If between 9 and 13 V 
  9. Test or replace the component: G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary
