Component Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

B13 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector: @ Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
  2. NOTE:
    • When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616  GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
    • Testing for Step 2 is performed on the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly connector using the GY probe J-35616-3.
  3. Test for the resistance listed below between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 12 & Low Reference circuit terminal 18
    • If the resistance is not within range

Replace the component: Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly

    • Go to next step: If the resistance is within range
  4. All OK.

K71 Transmission Control Module

    NOTE:

Circuit/System Testing must be performed before proceeding to K71 Transmission Control Module testing.

  1. Ignition Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: @ Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
  3. NOTE:
    • When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616  GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
    • Testing for steps *****3-x***** is performed on the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness using the GY probe J-35616-2A.
  4. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Verify the scan tool parameter: Transmission Fluid Temperature = -40°C (-40°F)
    • If the Transmission Fluid Temperature parameter does not display -40°C (-40°F).

Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module

    • Go to next step: If the Transmission Fluid Temperature parameter does display -40°C (-40°F)
  6. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 12 & Low Reference terminal 12
  7. Verify the scan tool parameter: Transmission Fluid Temperature = 180°C (356°F)
    • If the Transmission Fluid Temperature parameter does not display 180°C (356°F).

Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module

    • Go to next step: If the Transmission Fluid Temperature parameter does display 180°C (356°F)
  8. All OK.
