Wheel Bolts and Studs

Always clean the cone seat of wheel bolts and nuts.
Make sure not to grease the thread of the wheel bolts, nuts or studs.
Never apply grease to wheel nut cones. Any debris on the cones must be cleaned away with a clean cloth. Apply a thin coat of wheel bearing grease on wheel bolt cones where applicable. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
