Removal Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.WARNING: Refer to Brake Dust Warning .
- If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluids needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
- If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Caution .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the brake caliper lower guide pin bolt (1).
- Without disconnecting the hydraulic brake flexible hose, pivot the caliper upward and secure the caliper with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
CAUTION: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
- Remove the inboard brake pad (1) from the caliper mounting bracket (3). Note the location of the brake pad audible wear sensor.
- Remove the outboard brake pad (2) from the caliper mounting bracket (3).
- Remove the brake pad retainers (1) from the caliper bracket (2).
- Inspect the disc brake mounting and hardware. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection .
- Inspect the friction surfaces of the brake rotor for abnormal or excess wear and heavy rust. If any of these conditions are present, the brake rotor requires refinishing or replacement. Refer to Brake Rotor Refinishing or Front Brake Rotor Replacement .
