Rear Hatch Release Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The BCM supplies a 12V signal liftgate unlatch switch, when the switch is pressed, contacts within the switch closes providing a ground path for the signal circuit. The BCM will detect the voltage drop and will check the status of the door locks. If the doors are locked, the BCM will ignore the liftgate unlatch switch. If the doors are unlocked, the BCM will provide 12v and a ground for the liftgate unlatch relay which will energize the relay. When the relay is energized, battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate latch through the liftgate latch control circuit.
