Removal Procedure

- Remove the camshaft position actuator. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement (L5Q) .
- Components MUST be separated, marked or organized in a way to ensure installation to their original location and position. Take precautions in order to prevent interchanging of parts.
NOTE: Many internal engine components will develop specific wear patterns on their friction surfaces.
- Tag or mark each part immediately when removed. Indicate location, direction or orientation when necessary.
- Loosen the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts (1), working from outside to inside in a spiral in steps of 1/2 turn.NOTE: Observe the markings on the bearing caps. Each bearing cap is marked in order to identify its location.
- Remove the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).
- Remove the camshaft bearing front exhaust cap (2) and camshaft bearing cap (3).
- Remove the exhaust camshaft (4).
