Installation Procedure

- Coat the exhaust camshaft with lubricant. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers (Europe L5Q)Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers (North America L5Q) .
- Install the exhaust camshaft in the cylinder head.
- Ensure that the camshaft notch at the front of the camshaft is in the 12 O'clock position before installing the camshaft caps.
- Lubricate the 5 camshaft bearing caps (2, 3) and the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts (3). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers (Europe L5Q)Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers (North America L5Q)
.NOTE: Observe the markings on the bearing caps. Each bearing cap is market in order to identify its location. Ensure the caps are installed in the original location and position.
- Install the camshaft bearing cap (3).
- Install the camshaft bearing front cap (2).
- Loosely install the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts (1) by hand.
- Pre-Tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 6 N.m (53 lb in)
- Repeat pre-tightening until all bolts keep the torque of 6 N.m (53 lb in) and the gap at bearing cap is closed.
- Tighten the bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
- Install the camshaft position actuator. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement (L5Q) .
